CLASS DESCRIPTION: Learn the basics of sewing.  This course will be an introduction course to hand sewing as well as basic machine sewing. In this course you will learn sewing terminology. How to thread a needle and tie a knot. Hand stitch a rip or seam closed. Sew a button onto fabric. Hand sew a hem on a pair of pants. Hand stitch a small pillow and stuff it. Then learn machine parts and terminology. Learn the basic functions of the machine such as how to install a needle.  How to run the thread. How to make a bobbin. How to stitch a straight stitch on the machine. How to stitch a zigzag stitch. How to stitch a curve. Understand what happens when you adjust sewing machine tension. What types of threads to choose for each type of fabric.  Lastly how to measure, cut and sew a basic square or rectangular pillow to take home. .
